3 more classes

Hello friends!

The next three classes will be held in the evenings at Buena Vista Coffee on the Northside. Come join in the fun, and spread the word! If you can't make it to this Saturday's Elderberry syrup class, I'll be having it again in November at Buena Vista. Hope to see you!

All classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. The coffee shop will officially be closed, but I will have a pot of tea on hand for us :)

Herbal Oil and Healing Skin Salve: October 25th

Natural Cold Care, Elderberry Syrup: November 8th

Lotion and Lip Balm: December 6th

Buena Vista Coffee, 1501 Buena Vista St. Pittsburgh Pa 15212

Classes are $15 each, but if you pay for all three in advance it will be just $38. That's more than a 15% savings! (I will offer a similar discount if you have already taken one class, but sign up in advance for the other two)

Herbal Oil and Healing Skin Salve Make-and-Learn (Tuesday October 25, 7-9pm)

In this class you will learn how to make an herbal oil using the folk method, and then we will turn a previously made herbal oil into a healing skin salve. We will discuss the healing properties of the three herbs used, and talk about the many applications of this particular salve. St. John's Wort, Comfrey and Calendula are the herbs that make this an invaluable salve for cuts, burns, and bruises. Everyone will take home the recipe and a tin of salve that we make together that night.

Natural Cold Care and prevention: Elderberry Syrup (Tuesday, Nov. 8th 7-9pm)

We are getting a taste of cool weather, and starting to hear the sniffles, sneezes, and coughing of the season. Let's come together and make a trusted remedy for health! Elderberries have long been used for the prevention and healing of colds and flu, and research is starting to catch up. In this class we will talk about the medicinal properties of Elderberry (Sambucus nigra), natural ways to boost your immune system, and helpful hints to use if you start coming down with something. We will make Elderberry Syrup, and everyone will take home a 2 ounce, amber bottle of this beneficial syrup.

Lotion and Lip Balm (Tuesday, Dec. 6th 7-9pm)
Interested in making your own body care products? Come join us to see how easy it really is to make lotion and lip balm in your own kitchen. We will talk about the benefits of making your own products, the different types of oils you can choose, and where to find the supplies. This is a hands-on class, everyone will participate in the making of these two simple products. Each student will receive a 2-oz jar of lotion and a tube of lip balm from what we make, these also make great gifts!

Deodorant Make-and-Learn!

Hello friends!
I just scheduled the next class on how to make your own deodorant! I started making this last fall, and I can't rave about it enough. I always felt like if I chose a natural deodorant, I was merely choosing a smell that I liked mixed with my own sweat smell. (TMI? ha.) So I was pleasantly surprised when such a simple recipe worked so well! I'll never go back!

At this class we will talk about the downfalls of anti-perspirant, and the research linking aluminum to several diseases, how to deodorize internally, and we will each be making our own deodorant creme to take home and use. Should be a great time. Please RSVP, space is limited!

When: July 9th, 2011
Time: 12pm-2pm
Where: Polish Hill Civic Association
Cost: $15

RSVP: bridgetsapothecary@gmail.com

Hope to see you there!

It's a beautiful day

The sun is shining, I have a glass of homemade mint lemonade...the perfect time to make some body care products. Today I'm mixing up a few batches of deodorant creme. I'm making plain (which smells of coconut from the oil we use as a base), peppermint, and grapefruit/peppermint to fulfill some recent orders. Once the sunny days really set in, I'll let you know how my deodorant is working by the end of an 11 hour day in a greenhouse/farm. The true test!

You can order yours for $8 dollars a jar, you specify the scent. It's also available in a regular plastic deodorant container, but has a pretty low melting point, so I'm not recommending that container for summer use!

Welcome!

Welcome to Bridget's Apothecary! This started because of the people around me who were excited about a community where you could come together, learn new things, and go home with a healthy new way of living that you helped create yourself.

I host Make-and-Learn sessions, where you learn to make your own natural, bodycare and health products. I also offer the finished products for sale, as well as kits with all the supplies necessary to make them at home. I offer public classes, as well as classes that can be tailored to your group in your home, office or business, for a more personal educational session.

But mostly I offer education, and a sense of ownership over aspects of your life that you want to make just a little bit healthier. You can come together in your community, learn about why you might want a healthier natural product, meet new people and realize that making your own healthy products is a task within reach. I invite you to join in, by coming to a class, trying a new product, or making something for yourself, your family or your friends at home. Thanks for visiting!
